A couple weeks ago I saw a blurb somewhere about getting a new wireless router for $5. This caught my eye because we've been using an old 11Mbps jobby from Netgear (which has been incredibly solid, mind you). The catch? You have to leave your router open to other 'Foneros' for a year. Not a big deal to me since I didn't have anything locked down w/ the Netgear.

So, I ordered my Fon 'social router' for $5 + $8 shipping and hoped for the best.

Today, a Linksys WRT54GS showed up on my doorstep w/ Fon's firmware, muddy instructions, and window sticker that's really too small to see from the street. Not bad for $5.

After a few minutes of tiddling around, our new 54Mbps wireless network was up and ready for all in range... Well, all but my new DS lite. :(

Apparently, since the Fon software requires being able to submit a username/password combo from a webpage, the DS lite won't be able to connect anymore. It's not really a show-stopper; just an inconvenience. No more getting worked in Mario Kart DS online.

At least until they fix it. (hint hint)

Good things are happening at work this week ... I hit Target w/ Joey and picked up a DS Lite (it's gorgeous!), Brain Age, and Mario Kart DS (a blast!).

Why am I sitting here typing out a blog post when I could be playing w/ the new toy? Martha's playing Brain Age. ;)

June 13th is the technical due date for our little Abigail.

June 6th is the scheduled C-section.

GW: too much time in Riverside

This was so depressing. I spent about two hours in the Riverside Province mission clearing out nearly all the White Mantle and tower watchguards... even the last boss on the bridge. Then, in approaching Dinas, got tired/lazy and the henchies and I got wiped out by the last mob remaining. BAH!!!

Oh well, at least I got the bonus.

A while back, as an 'un-official, under the table, performance-based bonus', my friend/boss gave me his AMEX points to spend on their rewards site [thanks man!]. One of the things I 'bought' was 50 songs on the iTMS. After using several myself, and giving some to my wife, I have 9 song credits left.

Today, he suggested that I ask 9 people to pick their favorite songs, buy them, and make the playlist available via iTunes sharing.

So, off went an email to 9 co-workers. I'm really anxious to see the end result.

I've gotten three replies so far. However, only two of them are songs. One co-worker can't seem to 'pick just one'. Here's the list so far: (this is gonna be a really strange playlist)

GW: Exotic Nightstalker armor

After a few trips to the armor crafter (forgot materials one time, money another, etc.) I've got me a set of Exotic Nightstalker armor (AL70). I threw some red and green dye on various pieces just for the heck of it. Hugs might be dangerous.

It's definitely increased my durability! I don't have to shadow-step in and out of fights so much just to stay alive. Now I'm able to s-step based on when it's tactically smart to do so, rather then using it as an 'oh crap!' ability.

GW: 'exploration' Title

A few days before the release of Factions, Arenanet added Titles to our characters. While there are a bunch of titles now available, I'm really only interested in the 'exploration' category.

After buying Guild Wars last June, I created a Mesmer and named him Buz Ardpantz. I finished all the game's missions and all the quests related to the classes I chose. I thought for sure, that by now, I should have close to 90% of the Tyrian continent explorered.

Nope.

Upon checking last week, I was just above 61%. I was shocked. And, wouldn't you know it, as I was looking at that mocking 61, I noticed someone standing next to Buz w/ a 'Grandmaster Cartographer - 100% of Tyria explored' title.

Bah!

I'm on a mission. Unfortunately, this mission is going to take a while. After throwing a couple hours at it, I'm only up to 65.2%.

/sigh

The power of FREE

A little under a year ago, I got a great deal on web hosting from Dreamhost.com. They were having an anniversary sale and offering a year of service for $0.77/Mo.

It was an insanely great deal.

I had been paying about $10/Mo. previously, so I snatched that offer up immediately. Well, they say all good things come to an end. And sadly, I just got an email saying that my credit card would be billed $119.40 on May 10th for the next year of service.

Yikes! And no thanks!

My wife and I both have blogs and photo collections going on our server space. And while it'd be nice to stay... the free offerings of Flickr, Wordpress.com, Blogger, and others are just too good to be ignored.

We'll be making the move soon. Goodbye lechoso.com... Goodbye foobish.org... It was a fun ride. You'll always have special places in my ... well the sectors on my hard drive.

Forgive me for 'flooding' the world w/ yet another blog, but I've had numerous requests from friends and family members to help them get a blog setup for themselves. For those that would be scared off by the Wordpresses and MovableTypes of the world, I recommend blogger.com.

Now I can look at the same screens they're looking at to help troubleshoot.

So, to conclude, there's nothing to see here. Move along.
